AMBROSE PRESERVE PROTECTED!

WHF is excited to announce the permanent protection of the Ambrose Preserve, nestled in an open space area near the town of Moraga, in Contra Costa County. Ambrose is an 80-acre oak and bay woodlands preserve that provides critical habitat for the Alameda whipsnake and mitigation for the Faria residential development. With the addition of Ambrose, WHF now holds 4,067 acres of protected wildlife habitat in Contra Costa County!

MONITORING SURPRISES

I noticed this great-horned owl early one morning while preparing for a field trip at the Lincoln High School Farm Preserve, a wetland area surrounded by farmland, just north of Lincoln. On the same quiet morning, a small mink quickly crossed my path before disappearing into the nearby cattails and tules. These special pockets of wetlands within the Sacramento Valley provide important habitat for numerous species of wildlife.

YOUTH IN NATURE

Spring has sprung and we are in full swing with our Outdoor Education Program! We love giving local school-aged students the opportunity to have an outdoor experience at our Lincoln High School Farm wetland and vernal pool preserves.
