WHF preserves habitat lands in the following areas:

  • Open space as part of city, county, regional, or other conservation plans
  • Habitat as part of required mitigation for developments
  • Habitats designated to protect threatened or endangered plants and animals or species of special concern
  • Habitat as part of mitigation efforts, such as mitigation banks
  • Wildlife habitat that results from preserving working ranches and recreational lands, such as wildlife reserves and areas earmarked for hunting, fishing, and other outdoor recreational areas
  • Property earmarked to preserve specific species, such as native oaks, native plants, vernal pools, wetlands, riparian vegetation, and other resource areas
