Biologist
Nonprofit land trust (foundation) seeks a biologist (e.g., wildlife biologist, wetland specialist, botanist, fisheries biologist, or similar field) who is a team player for full-time employment.
Position Summary:
The incumbent will have a wide range of responsibilities that require a good working knowledge of wildlife biology, general ecology, and regulatory rules and procedures. The primary responsibility will be to coordinate contract biologists for conducting annual biological monitoring surveys on protected property throughout northern California. The incumbent will also be personally involved in conducting monitoring surveys, which will require a thorough knowledge of northern California ecosystems and important plant and animal species. Monitoring survey data must be summarized and entered into a report following the guidelines set forth by the various regulatory agencies. The incumbent will be responsible for arranging monitoring surveys to meet preset time schedules. It is critically important that the incumbent develop and maintain good working relationships with a variety of clients including private industry and various state and federal regulatory personnel.
Functions:
- Coordinate the annual biological monitoring surveys of protected properties in accordance with the relevant monitoring protocols set forth by the state and federal regulatory agencies.
- Conduct annual biological monitoring surveys of protected properties in accordance with the relevant monitoring protocols set forth by the state and federal regulatory agencies.
- Summarize data for annual biological monitoring surveys and prepare annual reports required by the state or federal regulatory agencies.
- Maintain user-friendly survey data sheets, Excel-based data summaries, and report templates.
- Review and evaluate entitlement documentation and advise executive director on the worthiness of new projects.
- Maintain positive and effective communication with all clients.
- In collaboration with other staff members, prepare grant proposals to further the mission of the foundation.
- Keep current on important decisions or rule changes in NEPA and CEQA.
- Confer with the executive director on a regular basis.
- Perform special assignments on an as-needed basis.
